About Visu Vista

With my father's surname, Smidt (smith), and my mother's family name, Timmerman (carpenter), my path was practically mapped out at birth. I come from a generation of makers. While my grandfather restored Second World War army vehicles down to the smallest bolt, he taught me how to work with my hands as a little boy. The 'how' and 'why' of constructions became my mother tongue.

My route took me through mechanical engineering, automotive technology and industrial product design. But there, my passion for true craftsmanship collided with modern reality. When my studies introduced me to planned obsolescence – the art of making products that break just after the warranty expires – it went squarely against my principles.

I don't believe in transience or disposable products. I believe in things that are made to last for generations, built on a foundation of honest data and pure craft.

My philosophy is simple: you must be able to build what you design. Nothing is more frustrating for a contractor than a beautiful design that proves unworkable in practice. With my background in set construction and as a furniture maker, I speak the language of the building site. I design with the hammer and chisel in the back of my mind. At Visu Vista we make sure the builder never has to wrestle with an impossible plan, but can get straight to work with a technically sound vision.

Today I'm that 'analogue guy' who deploys the most advanced 3D LiDAR scanning to capture the soul of a building. I don't use technology to replace craftsmanship, but to perfect it. Whether it's a centuries-old finca on Ibiza or a modern villa: my scans never lie.

At Visu Vista we combine the precision of a mechanical engineer with the eye of a furniture maker. We build your dream digitally first, accurate to the millimetre, so that reality will feel exactly as we promised.

I don't believe in working on islands. A successful project is the result of synergy. Visu Vista forms the crucial bridge between the architect's vision, the builder's pragmatism and the client's dream. We speak all three languages fluently.

We act as the bridge between the drawing board and the hammer. Many digital designers work from an 'ivory tower', but at Visu Vista we design with our boots in the mud. Because I worked with my hands for years — from set construction to custom furniture in Spain — I understand the challenges of the contractor.

Our promise to partners: we will never deliver a design a builder has to wrestle with. Every line we draw is technically feasible and based on the millimetre-precise reality of our LiDAR scans.
